Ingredients of life
Illustrations of Chemical compounds by Rex
An ultra-cool set of posters! Dopamine is the one I am most familiar with and it’s a very interesting chemical not only because it causes our emotional responses, but because it controls the ‘reward system’ of our brain which in turn motivates us to repeat actions that we enjoy (even if they are not good for our overall health, as is the case with chemical addiction).
But rather than dwelling too much on the more serious effects of these chemical responses, focus more on the greatness of the posters!
These posters are very good; however, it’s important to remember that it’s not solely these chemicals that are released when we experience certain emotions. For example the “love hormone” that is oxytocin, isn’t really the hormone that causes love. Nor is it the only hormone that is released when you feel love. Nor is it only released when you feel love.
When you’re in love, some people find it hard to sleep, hard to eat, they are sleepy, have mood swings and they have elevated heart rates. In these cases, the hormones responsible for this are dopamine, pheremones, and seratonin. These chemicals work together when we feel a certain emotion. There are many biological factors that are at play. I don’t think that it should be oversimplified in this form because it’s almost untruthful.
